On the Rocks

The Field of Play

One day last week I went down to the river and found a spot worth a return visit.  Anticipating that the river might rise a bit by the grace of Hurricane Sandy, I returned today.  The light was fine – bright but diffused, bringing out the colors and textures of the rocks.  If, in fact, we are about to experience the Perfect Storm, the next time I go there, it will be much different.

Stay safe, my friends.

Route 92

Looking downstream from Falls, PA

PA Route 92 between Exeter, where it leaves the Wyoming Valley, and Tunkhannock, following the first the west bank and then the east of the Susquehanna River, is one of the most scenic routes for miles around. It has the expected broad vistas, but also the more intimate images so often missed.

Mohonk Mountain

Sunrise Over the Hudson Valley

I had the good fortune to attend a day-long workshop with Robert Rodriguez, whose work I have admired for several years. (You can see it here.) The day began with a short walk into the woods in pitch dark!  I have never walked into the woods in pitch dark in my life, although I have walked out of the woods in the dark, due to miscalculations of which I am not proud.

The purpose of this insanity was to photograph the sunrise, but due to the previous day’s rain, the sunrise itself was obscured by fog.  Nonetheless, it quickly became a beautiful day.  I hope you agree!
