Leaves and Ice

A brook ran through my old homestead’s lands, and I spent many happy hours playing in it.  I remember particularly well a water wheel old Ray built.  He set it up in a good part of the stream, using an old coal chute to channel the water right onto the water wheel, which made it spin quite nicely.

I am blessed to live nearby and visit frequently.  Fifty (or so) years later, the brook still enchants me, but for different reasons.  Yes, the old happy memories are there, but I find new delights.  I hope you enjoy them.

Around the Edges

When the lake is freezing, or thawing, there is a fascinating interaction between the water, the ice, and the shoreline.  Delicate patterns emerge, and if we are mindful, we can see exquisite beauty in nature as she changes the seasons.

New Ice on Harveys Lake

New ice is forming on Harveys Lake, so this afternoon I went down to the dock to put in the ice-away, so as not to suffer damage when the ice starts to move in the spring.  The rope was broken (which I knew, but conveniently forgot), so I had to put off the task until tomorrow.  Fortunately, I had my camera and took a few shots at the shore, then a few more, and then spent the next two hours in what, for me, is photographic nirvana.  I hope you enjoy it!
